Happy new academic year, readers! This is probably the most exciting time of the year for students and academics alike as we are excited to start afresh and learn about interesting topics without the stress of deadlines fast approaching.
I wanted to use this first blog post to highlight the importance of starting off the academic year on the right foot. It's very easy to think that you can take it easy the first couple months of the year to take advantage of the downtime more you have all those essays to write. But I can assure you, the less work you do now, the more you pay for it when time matters. Do you remember those all-nighters last year? The incredible amount of stress you experienced trying to cram in as much information into your head and write something coherent on the page? This is a horrible experience that we all know and try to avoid as much as possible by reducing the time we feel like this.
The only way to avoid these cram sessions, which often lead to mediocre marks, is to finish the work early. Think of your degree like a full-time job because it is (you just don’t get paid). You are expected to dedicate a minimum of 40 hours per week to studying during term time, and anything less, you are doing yourself a disservice and compromising the quality of your education.
From both personal and professional experience, I know very well that students commonly put in far less than this amount of work, particularly during this time of the year. Unfortunately, this means missed lectures, seminars, unused office hours, and less time reading, thinking, and writing about your reading materials.
One of the easiest ways to stay on track with your coursework is to have an academic tutor you meet with at least once per week. This tutor can help get you started thinking about your essay early, keep you on track with your work, and act as your own academic cheerleader, providing the necessary encouragement to make it through.
Academic essay writing is a skill that plays a significant role in your educational journey, from high school to college and beyond. It's not just about putting words on paper but crafting a coherent, persuasive, and well-structured argument. If you find yourself struggling with your essays, don't despair. Tutoring services can be a valuable resource to help you improve your writing skills and excel academically. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the advantages of seeking tutoring services for academic essays and how they can make a difference in your academic success. Tutors can also help guide you on the steps towards academic success by teaching you the habits to adopt effective study techniques and the ways to navigate your university experience.
The whole university experience can be daunting, and trust me, most students do not know what they are doing and are often too afraid to ask. You can confidently complete your education by finding the right tutor for you, one that you can rely on to help you regularly rather than only in times of deadlines. Imagine a world in which you enjoy every day of your education, excited to learn, rather than just tolerating the experience until you get that piece of paper. Learning to love knowledge and know more about the world around you is a skill that will work for you for the rest of your life, and it's never easier to develop in your life than right now.
Remember that your teachers, lecturers, or professors want you to succeed. They want you to learn the material they have designed for you by actively engaging with it weekly rather than cramming and regurgitating. University is not about identifying the super smart from the average plebs. In fact, I argue excellence in education and academia is determined more by curiosity and hard work than by natural talent. Essentially, if you are interested in the topic, willing to work hard and invest in developing your knowledge through all the available resources, you are going in the right direction.
